Good Decision Making: Retailing cervical pillows

Guest post: Joshua Walker

I want to start this post off a little differently; humor me for a minute. Think back on all the major decisions you have made in your life. Now eliminate the ones in which you felt you made the wrong decision or maybe the second best. You are now left with the best decisions you have made throughout your life.

What is unique about those decisions? Each of those decisions probably had several things in common: you probably had several options, you did your research or maybe took the advice of a trusted colleague, friend, or expert in that field, and most importantly you didn’t rush into the decision blindly.

Now it’s not to say that you spent months contemplating the decision, but it was likely not made on impulse. You did your due diligence and once you gathered enough information you made your decision. When we do all of this we also get to skip out on the whole buyer’s remorse issue and instead feel proud of the decision we made and the outcomes of that decision.

So what does this have to do with retailing in your clinic and selling pillows?

All these aspects about good decision making mentioned earlier are aspects that can help you retail products and better serve your patients’ needs.  Some doctors don’t see the value or significance in providing cervical pillows for their patients. In the past I have heard comments like, “Why should I carry pillows when they can buy them at Walmart or online?”

Two Main Reasons:

  1. You are the expert and they are paying you to become and/or stay healthy. They value your expertise and so should you.
  2. They can try pillows in your office that are not available in stores and you are able to see which one fits their needs the best. Make sure to watch Dr. Weiniger’s video below as it goes more in-depth on the fitting process. I would also suggest having disposable pillow cases so the patients can easily try the different options you carry.

In the video Dr. Weiniger talks about the importance of options and that you will never find one pillow that fits everyone. That is why we suggest carrying at least three options so that you have enough variety for your patients to find a pillow that fits them properly.

If you want to learn more about which pillows are our most popular or how to retail more effectively give me a call at 1-866-318-3251.

Thanks for taking the time to read the post and again don’t forget to watch the video to learn the importance of proper sleeping position and how cervical pillows can lead to a happier and healthier life.
